Filter Pump
HydroHammer’s Impulse Filter provides a high throughput, electricity-free, self-cleaning filtration system for solids capture down to 1 µm. The system is simple, operating with just two valves and a filter cartridge. The compact design is scalable, with a 0.2 – 10 L/s capacity and the ability to concentrate suspended solids up to 50 times.
Applications
The Impulse Filter offers a new approach for filtration in wastewater management, industrial filtration, and pollution capture - effectively removing suspended solids for use or safe discharge. Further applications include Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), which are showcased
here.
This video provides an overview of the Impulse Filter, showcasing its filtration process:
1 - Water flows, under gravity, through the drive pipe into the Impulse Filter.
2 - The solution passes through the filter medium and exits via the impulse valve, which at a set speed of filtrate, slams shut, creating a pressure wave.
3 - The pressure wave passes back through the filter, dislodging particulate matter.
4 - A concentrated zone of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) forms.
5 - The TSS is directed into the Air Chamber and pushed through the delivery pipe.
Once the pressure normalizes, the impulse valve reopens, and the cycle repeats.
The Impulse Filter’s backwash reduces fouling every cycle, ensuring peak performance and minimal maintenance. Using either natural flows of water or artificial gravity systems, the filter generates its pumping pressure without external energy. It captures particulates, valorising industrial streams or capturing pollutants.
